First Academic Disqualification
Regulation L
If you are a first semester student and you fail to achieve a 1.0 GPA for the semester, you will be placed on first disqualification. This means that you will be unable to attend the university for one semester. Once the required semester away is complete, you will be eligible to return to the university. You will work closely with your advisor and establish a plan to ensure your academic success during your transition back to school. If you have significant and documented extenuating circumstances (such as hospitalization records, death certificate of a family member, etc.) you may appeal for immediate reinstatement. See below for instructions on how to begin the appeal process.
First Disqualification
If you are a student who began the term on academic probation and do not achieve a 2.0 GPA for the semester you will be placed on academic disqualification. The university requires that you sit out one semester to help you clarify your academic and personal goals. After the semester away is complete, you will be allowed to return to the university on academic probation.
If you have significant and documented extenuating circumstances, you may appeal for immediate reinstatement. You will be asked to meet with your probation advisor and have an honest discussion about the reasons you were placed on academic disqualification and to assess your academic and personal goals. Your advisor will work with you to decide if a petition for reinstatement is in your best interest. (It is important to note that a reinstatement petition is not guaranteed to be approved and it must be submitted by the deadline in order to be considered).

Note: The Registrar’s Office will drop students from their next semester’s classes if those students on academic disqualification are not reinstated by the deadline.
