The College of Science Ambassador Program is designed to incorporate exceptional undergraduate students from within our college to aid in our recruitment and retention efforts and act as the official representatives of the College of Science to the community. Students are selected to serve as ambassadors through an application and interview process. Ambassadors are trained in university processes and given opportunities to enhance their communication and leadership skills through a one-credit course taught by Daniel Stelck.
The mission of the ambassador program is to promote the College of Science in a positive and professional manner to prospective and current students as well as faculty, staff and the community. Our ambassadors work directly with various university departments in order to serve as a public relations and institutional advancement team. The College of Science ambassadors strive to represent the college in a manner that exemplifies campus pride, display a sound knowledge about the College of Science and leave a positive and lasting impression of University of Idaho.
For more information about the program, contact Daniel Stelck at firstname.lastname@example.org or any of our current College of Science ambassadors.
Major: Mathematics / Computer Science
Hello. I am a sophomore double majoring in mathematics and computer science. I like computers, but my real passion is math. I spend most of my spare time reading or doing math of various sorts. Algebraic geometry and algebraic number theory are my favorites right now, but I enjoy pretty much every type of math. After graduating, I plan to go to graduate school for a doctorate in pure math.
Major: Physics / Applied Mathematics
I am from Boise, Idaho. I am a senior majoring in Physics (Applied and General) and Applied Mathematics. My interest in Physics began in high school when I found myself constantly asking "Why?" when topics were presented in my classes so naturally I gravitated towards Physics to answer that question. I currently work under Dr. McIlroy studying Nanospings. I am also the president the Society of Physics Students and Astronomy Club. After I graduate I plan on pursuing a PhD in Applied Physics. During my free time I like to lift weights, rock climb, bike, and swim.
Major: Physics / Mathematics
Hello! I am currently a junior double majoring in Physics and Mathematics and I hope to go into theoretical physics/mathematics one day. I am originally from the small town of Ririe, in Southeast Idaho. Science is my passion and I work with science outreach programs at the University of Idaho to bring the joy of science into local elementary schools. I am excited to work with the College of Science again this year!
Major: Geological Sciences
I am currently a junior majoring in Geological Sciences and minoring in Chemistry at the University of Idaho. I plan to attend graduate school, and someday work as a seismologist doing research. I first discovered my love of geology when my grandpa showed me his quartz crystal collection, and it is only becoming more fascinating the more I learn. In my spare time, I love to play piano, sing, read mystery and science fiction books and hang out with my friends.
I'm a Moscow native studying microbiology at the University of Idaho. I'm also an undergraduate researcher in a biochemistry laboratory under Dr. Doug Cole. My project focuses on a novel protozoan, Euglena sp. G12 (which we affectionately call "The Little Monster"). I primarily work to identify symbiotic microorganisms and ways in which they may support G12. In my spare time, I sing in the Jazz Choir Ensemble and go swing dancing (I'm also a member of Swing Devils of the Palouse). Once finished with my undergraduate degree, I plan to pursue a career in science and research.
Major: Chemistry / Biochemistry
I am a senior at the University of Idaho, double majoring in chemistry and biochemistry. My current research is under Dr. Jakob Magolan in the area of synthetic organic chemistry and its applications to pharmaceuticals. In particular, our research involves the development of a novel approach toward eliminating pancreatic cancer cells. My love for chemistry and research is derived directly from my family, who while not at all being involved in chemistry or scientific research, showcased to me the beauty of having curiosity in a field that you are passionate about. My goals for the future are to attend graduate school for organic chemistry and eventually go on to become a research professor at a university, allowing me to live my lifelong dream of sharing complex ideas with others that share my love for science.
My name is Sidney and I am from Lewiston, Idaho. I'm studying forensic chemistry and hope to one day analyze evidence from crime scenes. One of the reasons I love chemistry is that it is a puzzle which scientists are trying to figure out how and why molecules work the way they do. When not at school, I enjoy relaxing at home, looking at the stars and camping.
I am from Athol, Idaho and I am currently a senior majoring in Chemistry with a professional emphasis. I wanted to be a part of the ambassador program because I believe the University of Idaho has a really strong science department, and I think more potential students should know about the resources and opportunities that are offered for science majors. I participate in undergraduate research in the Magolan Research Group here at the University of Idaho, and I'm currently working on an independent synthetic methodology project. After graduating, I hope to attend graduate school to work toward a PhD in organic chemistry.
Major: Physics / Chemistry
I am a fourth year physics and chemistry major with a minor in mathematics. I am also a pre-medicine student. I currently work under Dr. Ytreberg in the biophysics lab studying the human p53 protein. I was born in California but grew up in Boise, Idaho. During my high school days I discovered a passion for physics and in my sophomore year of college I decided chemistry wasn't too bad either. The math minor is a product of convenience. My interests include backpacking, swimming, skiing, reading, golfing, traveling, cracked.com, playing guitar, and bumming around with the ER crew at the Boise VA hospital.
Major: Biology / Pre-Med
Hello! I'm a junior at the University of Idaho, majoring in Biology/Pre-Med. My goals/aspirations are to attend medical school, specifically the WWAMI program, and become involved in rural medicine. Next summer I intend on completing a Wilderness EMT course, in Missoula, MT, just because it sounds awesome and I feel it pertains to my field of interest. I am a sincere outdoors enthusiast, and I enjoy swimming, skiing, horse-back riding, trail running, hiking, backpacking, rock climbing, camping, adventures with friends/family, and lots more. I also have an Australian Shepherd, named Bodie, and he's my best friend. I also volunteer at the Palouse Free Clinic in Pullman, WA. I love helping and positively interacting with others so don't be afraid to shoot me an email!
Major: Microbiology / Pre-Med
I am a junior majoring in Microbiology, Pre-medical emphasis, with a minor in Spanish. I'm from Vancouver, Washington but am so glad that I found a new home here in Idaho for my four years of college. I plan to attend medical school after I finish my degree and eventually have my own surgical practice on the east coast, but I'm taking it one day at a time. I spend most of my free time either playing sports such as volleyball, golf, and tennis or being with my friends. I find my connections with others have been one of my biggest asset in life.
Currently, I am Junior working toward a degree in Microbiology. I am also minoring in Chemistry, Anthropology, and Molecular Biology/Biochemistry. I hope to one day pursue a career in medicine. I was born and raised in Anchorage, Alaska and am currently living in and am a member of Kappa Alpha Theta at the University. I am a player and officer on the UI Club Volleyball team, as well as, a member of the ASUI Vandal Entertainment Street Team and the Vandal Reps.
Major: Chemistry / Pre-Med
I am currently a sophomore majoring in chemistry and minoring in philosophy. I love being involved on campus, in the chemistry department, and around the community by volunteering and trying lots of different activities. I'm from Boise, Idaho, and enjoy mountain biking, skiing, and theater. My grand plan for the future is to go into medicine, probably as a family practitioner.
I am currently a senior at the University of Idaho, studying Microbiology, Molecular Biology, and Biotechnology. My goal is to one day pursue careers in medical research and clinical microbiology. I am from Twin Falls, Idaho! I am a member of the Phi Gamma Delta fraternity and have enjoyed living in the house on campus for my entire undergraduate career. Besides science, I enjoy swimming, running, music, being outdoors, and hanging out with friends. After the University of Idaho, I plan on continuing my education in graduate school, to further my studies on Microbiology and Immunology.
