Student Ambassadors

Ambassador Program

The College of Science Ambassador Program is designed to incorporate exceptional undergraduate students from within our college to aid in our recruitment and retention efforts and act as the official representatives of the College of Science to the community. Students are selected to serve as ambassadors through an application and interview process. Ambassadors are trained in university processes and given opportunities to enhance their communication and leadership skills through a one-credit course taught by Daniel Stelck.

Mission

The mission of the ambassador program is to promote the College of Science in a positive and professional manner to prospective and current students as well as faculty, staff and the community. Our ambassadors work directly with various university departments in order to serve as a public relations and institutional advancement team. The College of Science ambassadors strive to represent the college in a manner that exemplifies campus pride, display a sound knowledge about the College of Science and leave a positive and lasting impression of University of Idaho.

More Information

For more information about the program, contact Daniel Stelck at daniels@uidaho.edu or any of our current College of Science ambassadors.

Alice Cassel

Biology and Microbiology with a minor in Pre-Health Studies

Hi! I'm Alice Cassel, I'm a senior majoring in biology and microbiology with a minor in pre-health professional studies, and I am from Western Washington. My career goal is to earn a PhD in Microbiology or Biomedical Sciences, and work as a research scientist and professor. My favorite thing about the College of Science at the University of Idaho is the ability to get involved in undergraduate research. I have done research in Dave Tank's lab for over 2 years on two projects: floral morphology and soil microbiomes of the Pacific Northwest. Through support of faculty at UIdaho, I have also earned incredible opportunities for summer research. I participated in an NSF REU studying mycobacterial gene transfer at the Wadsworth Center, New York State Department of Health in Albany, NY in summer 2018. In summer 2019, I spent the summer researching CRISPR-Cas bacterial immune systems at the Rockefeller University in New York, NY. UIdaho is also a great place to be a student scientist and be involved in other activities - I am also a member of Kappa Delta Sorority, the Vice President of Scholarship on Panhellenic Council, a part of Women in Science Society, and volunteer with Planned Parenthood Generation Action. When I'm not working on my science, you can find me doing yoga, hiking, and trying all the great food Moscow has to offer!

Hi! My name is Audrey Dingel and I am a biochemistry and medical sciences major with a minor in pre-health studies from Boise, Idaho. At school I am participating in research for the Dr. Top lab, which focuses on the developing problem of antibiotic resistant bacteria. I am also a program assistant for the Intramurals Program and the Academics Chair for my sorority, Gamma Phi Beta. I also work as a Certified Nursing Assistant during the summers and have found a passion in helping those who cannot help themselves. I am aspiring to be an Emergency Room Doctor and in the future would also like to work in a teaching hospital to help develop the talents of future doctors. I hope to see you around and I cannot wait to help you further your love for science!

Megan Dobson

Microbiology and Biology Major

Hello! My name is Megan Dobson, and I am a junior majoring in both Microbiology and Biology with a pre-health minor. I am from Meridian, Idaho and attended a medically-focused high school where I became a registered CNA and EMT. I have always loved science and sharing my passion for it with others. I aspire to be a lifelong learner. I hope that one day I will be able to work in infectious disease research and also share science in a way that is accessible to all.

Outside of the College of Science, I am a part of Gamma Phi Beta where I serve as Public Relations Vice President. I am also involved with Panhellenic. In the past, I have been an intern with Vandal Health Education. Exploring new places, whether a new shop in Moscow or pitching a tent at a campground I've never been to before, is one of my favorite things. I am excited to help others discover how powerful science can be!
