The College of Science Ambassador Program is designed to incorporate exceptional undergraduate students from within our college to aid in our recruitment and retention efforts and act as the official representatives of the College of Science to the community. Students are selected to serve as ambassadors through an application and interview process. Ambassadors are trained in university processes and given opportunities to enhance their communication and leadership skills through a one-credit course taught by Daniel Stelck.
The mission of the ambassador program is to promote the College of Science in a positive and professional manner to prospective and current students as well as faculty, staff and the community. Our ambassadors work directly with various university departments in order to serve as a public relations and institutional advancement team. The College of Science ambassadors strive to represent the college in a manner that exemplifies campus pride, display a sound knowledge about the College of Science and leave a positive and lasting impression of University of Idaho.
For more information about the program, contact Daniel Stelck at firstname.lastname@example.org or any of our current College of Science ambassadors.
Hi there! I am currently in my junior year as a biology major. With a love for science and people, I am hoping to pursue a career in medicine. I have had some amazing shadowing opportunities, fun times in pre-med club, and I even got my certification as an EMT. These experiences have led me to pursue a career in family medicine. But, besides all things medical, I really enjoy things like art, gaming, and exercise. If you’re a fellow LoL player, then “stay positive!”
Major: Mathematics / Computer Science
Hello. I am a junior double majoring in mathematics and computer science. I like computers, but my real passion is math. I spend most of my spare time reading or doing math of various sorts. Algebraic geometry and algebraic number theory are my favorites right now, but I enjoy pretty much every type of math. After graduating, I plan to go to graduate school for a doctorate in pure math.
Major: Physics / Mathematics
Hello. I am from West Richland, Wash. I am a junior majoring in both physics and mathematics. I am doing research under Dr. Hedman studying Saturn's rings and moons. In this project, we have been looking for new ring features caused by a moon Prometheus. I plan on attending graduate school studying astrodynamics, the study of how spacecraft navigate space. My interest in physics started with a passionate high school physics teacher, who inspired me to pursue the field. Outside of the math and physics classes, I enjoy playing in the marching band and camping.
Major: Physics / Mathematics
Hello! I am currently a senior double majoring in mathematics and physics. I hope to work with mathematical modeling in an interdisciplinary field one day. I am originally from the small town of Ririe, in Southeast Idaho. I love science and I work with outreach programs at the University of Idaho to bring the joy of science into local elementary schools. I am excited to work with the College of Science again this year!
Major: Molecular Biology and Biotechnology/ Medical Technology
I am from a small town called Wallace, Idaho. I am a junior double majoring in molecular biology and biotechnology, and medical technology. I plan to apply at Sacred Heart next fall for a 12 month long program to become a certified medical laboratory scientist. As a medical laboratory scientist, I would perform different analyses on body fluids such as blood, urine, or cerebrospinal fluid. After the program, I would like to specialize in either bacteriology or genetics. Besides science, I love reading, traveling, playing games, and binge watching Netflix. I also have a dog, named Stark (Game of Thrones/Iron Man), who I completely adore.
I am currently a sophomore studying physics and I am from Gooding, Idaho. I decided to become a physics major because I wanted to know more about why things are the way they are on a more fundamental level. Through the Ambassador program, I want incoming students and new students to understand the opportunities that are available and, specifically, the quality of education they receive here at the University of Idaho. Outside of physics and class, I am a member of the Volleyball Club and in my spare time I like to read and hang out with friends. In the future, I want to attend graduate school and get a Ph.D. or Masters in Physics, though I’m not sure what I want to specialize in just yet.
Hello! I am a junior majoring in biology with minors in pre-health profession studies and psychology. My dream has always been to be accepted into a physician assistant program, but this past summer I had an internship at SeaWorld and I became interested in animal behavior. That’s what I love about studying science; there are so many opportunities! Although I’d like to know exactly what I’ll be doing after graduation, I’ve committed the next two years to learning all I can and enjoying my time as an undergrad. I’m originally from Los Angeles, California, but moved to Coeur d’Alene a few years ago and absolutely love it! I like to spend my free time reading, hiking, biking, skiing, hanging out with my friends, and, of course, watching Netflix!
I’m currently a junior working toward a degree in chemistry with a professional emphasis. I love it because it’s everywhere, all the time, and yet there’s always more to learn. I grew up in central Montana, but also love my home here on the Palouse. I currently participate in research under Dr. Richard Williams, doing synthesis of theoretically interesting molecules. On my own time I enjoy music, cooking, reading thought-provoking books, and watching mediocre crime shows with my dog. After the University of Idaho, I hope to attend graduate school to further my studies into chemistry as well as mathematics.
Major: Biology / Pre-Med
Hello! I'm a junior at the University of Idaho, majoring in biology/pre-med. My goals/aspirations are to attend medical school, specifically the WWAMI program, and become involved in rural medicine. Next summer I intend on completing a Wilderness EMT course, in Missoula, Mont., just because it sounds awesome and I feel it pertains to my field of interest. I am a sincere outdoors enthusiast, and I enjoy swimming, skiing, horseback riding, trail running, hiking, backpacking, rock climbing, camping, adventures with friends/family, and lots more. I also have an Australian Shepherd, named Bodie, and he's my best friend. I also volunteer at the Palouse Free Clinic in Pullman, Wash. I love helping and positively interacting with others so don't be afraid to shoot me an email!
Major: Microbiology / Pre-Med
I am a junior majoring in microbiology, pre-medical emphasis, with a minor in Spanish. I'm from Vancouver, Wash., but am so glad that I found a new home here in Idaho for my four years of college. I plan to attend medical school after I finish my degree and eventually have my own surgical practice on the east coast, but I'm taking it one day at a time. I spend most of my free time either playing sports such as volleyball, golf, and tennis or being with my friends. I find my connections with others have been one of my biggest assets in life.
Minor: Renewable Materials
I am a junior and from Eagle, Idaho. I am majoring in biology and minoring in renewable materials. My dream is to work with biology in the sustainability and field in hopes of finding greener ways for our society to function. Besides my love for science, I love the outdoors. So when I have free time you will probably find me hiking, fishing or playing intramurals through the university. And I am currently a member of Delta Gamma here at the University of Idaho!
Hello! My name is Emma and I from Boise, Idaho. I am currently a Junior studying geological sciences. I hope to one day pursue a career studying volcanoes and seismology. I am also currently an active member of the Beta Theta Chapter of Kappa Alpha Theta. In my spare time, I enjoy hiking, backpacking, traveling, horseback-riding, volunteering, and spending time with friends and family.
I am a 21-year-old senior microbiology major originally from Seattle, Wash. In addition to my classwork, I am involved in Kappa Delta sorority and two vocal jazz choirs. I am also engaged in undergraduate research with respiratory viruses in Dr. Miura’s lab. I enjoy singing, reading, drawing and video games. A major goal for me is to positively impact the fight against disease. I am interested in how pathogenic disease functions on the molecular level in relation to the immune system. Someday I would love to be involved in pathogenic, immunological, or vaccine development research.
Major: Geological Sciences
I am currently a junior majoring in geological sciences and minoring in chemistry at the University of Idaho. I plan to attend graduate school, and someday work as a seismologist doing research. I first discovered my love of geology when my grandpa showed me his quartz crystal collection, and it is only becoming more fascinating the more I learn. In my spare time, I love to play piano, sing, read mystery and science fiction books and hang out with my friends.
