Leading discovery on campus and across Idaho

At University of Idaho, research isn’t confined to a lab — it lives in rivers, soils, forests, communities and collaborative spaces across the state. Our facilities are hubs of innovation, from high-tech laboratories to field-based research centers. They support interdisciplinary teams tackling complex problems and provide learning experiences for students at every level. Whether studying deep soil ecosystems or modeling new solutions for our waterways, Idaho is where discovery happens.

Integrated Research and Innovation Center (IRIC)

The Integrated Research and Innovation Center (IRIC) serves as a hub for interdisciplinary research. Designed to foster collaboration across fields, IRIC brings together faculty members, students and external partners to solve complex challenges and pursue inventive solutions. This state-of-the-art facility reflects U of I’s commitment to experiential learning and transformative research.

Laboratory Animal Research Facility

The Laboratory Animal Research Facility (LARF) is a centralized animal care facility that houses terrestrial and aquatic species on the Moscow campus. The facility has various standard and Biological Safety Level 2 animal holding rooms, standard internally ventilating caging systems, a block of aquatic rooms, a fully functional surgical and behavioral suite, quarantine space and a newly renovated insectary. Contact facility manager Jaclyn Huffman at 208-885-6187 or jaclynh@uidaho.edu to learn more.

Center for Ecohydraulics Research (CER)

The Center for Ecohydraulics Research (CER) focuses on understanding the connection between physical processes and aquatic ecosystems. From research around sediment transport in headwater streams and river restoration to modeling aquatic habitats in river-floodplain systems, CER’s work helps advance sustainable water resource management and supports graduate education in this critical field.
