What LASR Does

LASR was organized to achieve research and development results that are required by its corporate partners. In addition, LASR will carry out feasibility and proof of concept research to prove-out new technologies.

Our passion is for applied research that can inform and solve real world problems. As an independent not-for-profit entity, we bring an objective and active approach to solving our partner’s problems. Our affiliation with the University of Idaho provides diverse opportunities engaging university resources for our projects. However, we are not constrained in this respect and will work to achieve the most efficient approach to project progress.

Our affiliation with the University of Idaho positions us to access research and development expertise at the university. The goal is to provide this expertise for applied research that is specifically directed to the R & D goals of our corporate partner. Although affiliated with the UI, LASR is an independent not-for-profit organization with 501 c (3) status. LASR is organized to meet business research needs with a streamlined process to manage the research agreement and project, and to coordinate university expertise. LASR projects may be constructed so that intellectual property (IP) that results from corporate sponsored research projects can be developed and retained by the corporate partner. University capabilities are made available through a contractual relationship between LASR and UI. LASR staff members provide dedicated project management with a focus on timely achievement of agreed upon deliverables.

In addition to accessing the renowned expertise of UI researchers, LASR can access UI research equipment and laboratory or other specialized spaces as part of a project. These capabilities are made available in the context of a research agreement that clearly defines access and use, a project timeline and deliverables. LASR provides management oversight for research activities that is focused on progress towards project R & D goals.
