International Student First Week Schedule

Jan. 8, 2023: On-Campus Housing Move-In begins for International Students

  • Reserve housing prior to travel. If you need help, contact housing@uidaho.edu.
  • There is a shuttle running between the University of Idaho and the Moscow-Pullman Regional Airport (PUW). The shuttle services daytime flights from Jan. 3 through Jan. 10, 2023. Complete the form to request pick-up from the PUW airport.
  • If you arrive before Jan. 8, 2023, the day that on-campus housing opens for move-in, plan carefully and communicate/make hotel reservations early. Many American businesses are closed or have irregular hours due to observing American holidays from approximately Dec. 20, 2022 - Jan. 5, 2023.

Jan. 9, 2023:

  • ALCP: ALCP Placement Testing & ALCP Class Registration
    • American Language and Culture Students are required to attend this testing and registration session. For more details or to schedule your placement testing, email Christine Slater at cslater@uidaho.edu.
  • Undergraduate International Students: New Student Orientation
    • Sign up for New Student Orientation. See the schedule for more details on locations and times.
  • Graduate International Students:
    • College of Graduate Studies: Online orientation. All new graduate students will automatically be added to the orientation course. A notification will be sent prior to the beginning of the semester. View further details on the College of Graduate Studies website.
    • Departmental Specific Orientation: A notification will be sent prior to the beginning of the semester. You are also encouraged to email your academic program for more details. Please find contact information on the Graduate Admissions website.     

Jan. 10, 2023: International Student Orientation

All international students are required to attend the mandatory immigration check-in and international student orientation sessions below.

  • 12-12:30 p.m. — Check-In Begins
    Vandal Ballroom, Bruce Pitman Center
    Check in at the Vandal Ballroom on the 2nd floor of the Bruce Pitman Center
  • 12:30 p.m. — Welcome Remarks & Introductions
    Meet the International Services staff and student ambassadors
  • 12:45 p.m. — Games & Prizes
    Get ready to compete and win some U of I swag for your team of new friends!
  • 1:15 p.m. — U.S. Visa Rules, iVandal, U.S. Culture
    Meet your International Services advisor and learn about the rules and benefits of your F-1 or J-1 visa and how to complete your immigration check-in
  • 2:45 p.m. — Stretch Break
    Enjoy a cup of tea, stretch, and reenergize your brain
  • 3 p.m. — Healthcare in the U.S.
    A brief overview of how the U.S. healthcare system works
  • 3:30 p.m. — Academics in the U.S.
    Learn about the U.S. academic system and tips for success
  • 4 p.m. — Closing Remarks, Event Reminders & Group Photo
    Let’s capture this special day with a photo!
  • 4:30 p.m. — Guided tour of International Programs Office (IPO)
    International Programs Office, LLC 3-Sage
    Come see the IPO where you can schedule an International Services advising appointment, study in peace or hang out with friends

Students attending U of I’s extension campuses (Boise, Idaho Falls, Coeur d’Alene, etc.) will be required to attend an Online International Student Orientation. Online orientation details will be emailed to students in January.

Jan. 11, 2023: Spring 2023 Semester Begins — First day of classes

Please note that the University of Idaho is closed from Dec. 23, 2022 through Jan. 2, 2023 and many staff and faculty may not return to the office until Jan. 4 or after. Do as much advance planning as possible.
