Midshipman, 3rd Class Kaleb Brooks (USMCR)

Kaleb Brooks

Kaleb Jacob Brooks, a sophomore at University of Idaho, is on a path that intertwines his deep-rooted faith, a commitment to service and a passion for the great outdoors. From Nampa, Idaho, his journey to the NROTC program is marked by a desire to grow as a person, serve others and honor a family legacy of service and forestry.

Kaleb's decision to join the military is deeply personal and reflective of his values. His aspiration to become a better person and help others is grounded in his faith. He views military service as a noble endeavor that aligns with his life's primary goals: serving others and doing good. This perspective has been a guiding force in his choice to pursue a military career.

Kaleb Brooks sits in the driver seat.

With college already in his plans, Kaleb saw the opportunity to become an officer as a door to greater possibilities. His interest in NROTC was sparked partly by his father's service in the Marine Corps. His long-standing fascination with aviation, ignited by an early experience of flying a private aircraft, solidified his decision. For Kaleb, the Marine Corps offered a clear plan toward achieving his goals and presented opportunities he hadn't anticipated, including traveling and exploring the world.

Kaleb's choice of a double major in Forestry and Fire Ecology and Management reflects his love for the outdoors and a desire to serve others through firefighting. This choice also honors his family's history of Marines and foresters, making his academic pursuit a continuation of a proud family tradition.

U of I's proximity to his hometown and its welcoming, community-focused environment were key factors in Kaleb's choice. The state's natural beauty and the kindness of its people have made U of I a perfect fit for him, aligning with his love for nature and the outdoors.

Beyond his academic and military commitments, Kaleb is actively involved in Venture Church and Chi Alpha. He works with the U of I Events team and dedicates his time to outdoor activities like camping and hiking. His commitment to helping others, whether through counseling or aiding in personal struggles, is a testament to his dedication to service.

Kaleb's college experience has been rich in learning and personal growth. He has honed skills in time management, budgeting and setting clear goals. Importantly, he has learned to view failures as opportunities for growth and to prioritize family time amidst a busy schedule.
