Food program
At the University of Idaho Children’s Center (UICC), we believe that nutritious meals are an essential part of early childhood development. Our food service program manager prepares and serves healthy meals daily, including breakfast, lunch and afternoon snacks.
Mealtimes
- Breakfast: 8:30 – 9 a.m.
- Lunch: 11:30 a.m. to noon
- Snack: 2:30 – 3 p.m.
Each meal is carefully planned to meet the USDA’s Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP) nutritional standards. Here's what a typical day includes:
- Breakfast: Milk, a serving of fruit or vegetables and a whole grain or enriched bread product.
- Lunch: Milk, protein (meat or alternative), two servings of fruits and/or vegetables and a whole grain or enriched grain.
- Snack: Two of the following — fruit, vegetable and grain or protein item with water to drink.
About our food program
UICC participates in the federally funded CACFP program, administered by the USDA. This program supports our goal of providing balanced, developmentally appropriate meals for every child.
Through CACFP, we help children:
- Explore new and healthy foods
- Practice family-style dining
- Learn about portion sizes
- Develop positive mealtime habits
Weekly menus are created based on CACFP guidelines and reflect a variety of seasonal ingredients to keep meals fresh, appealing and nutritious.
