VGP requirements and services

Admissions requirements

The Vandal Gateway Program is designed for students who fall just below University of Idaho’s standard admission criteria and would benefit from a more structured, supportive transition into college life. VGP students begin their academic journey as General Studies majors. If you remain in good academic standing, you’ll have the opportunity to declare a different major starting in your second semester.

As part of the program, you’ll take two to three cohort-based courses each semester alongside other Gateway students. You’ll also have the flexibility to enroll in courses related to your intended major or that fulfill General Education requirements (courses required for all majors at U of I).

Cohort-based courses

Fall semester:

  • English 101
  • Cultural Anthropology
  • Two-credit College Success course

Spring semester:

  • English 102
  • Communication 101
  • One-credit Career Exploration course
