Urban Design Center

From the College of Art and Architecture, the Urban Design Center (UDC) offers the first two years of undergraduate coursework in architecture and interior architecture and design and the first year of undergraduate coursework in landscape architecture. Students then transfer to our Moscow campus with the potential for advanced standing. We also offer four interdisciplinary graduate programs at the UDC, designed to simulate real-world partnerships. Our programs provide a holistic approach to urban design, emphasizing the interplay between built and natural systems. Through research, professional practice and community engagement, students work together across a range of scales to address issues of resilience and sustainability at the regional and urban scale. With a vibrant, urban setting, Boise offers a dynamic backdrop for studying design.

We currently offer seven programs at University of Idaho Boise

  • B.S. Architecture

The University of Idaho Architecture Program is your first step toward a career in architecture. We offer a program that explores the built environment and its role in how people live, work and play. It also teaches students about the power of architectural thinking and making. Students enrolled in this degree program through the Urban Design Center will take their first two years of coursework in Boise and complete their undergraduate coursework in Moscow. Students are then encouraged to pursue their professional degree, which is the next step to licensure, by continuing into our seamless Master of Architecture Program.
  • B. Interior Architecture and Design

Our nationally accredited Bachelor of Interior Architecture Design (B.I.A.D.) goes beyond most other interior design programs to provide the interdisciplinary knowledge, real-world experience and environmental and social awareness needed to succeed in this dynamic profession. Students enrolled in this degree program through the Urban Design Center will take their first two years of coursework in Boise and complete their undergraduate coursework in Moscow.
  • B.S. Landscape Architecture

The University of Idaho offers a “seamless” professional Landscape Architecture Program, making it possible to earn an undergraduate and master’s degree in as few as five and a half years, while preparing our graduates with the skills, experience and credentials needed to practice as a licensed landscape architect in less time than many traditional programs. Students enrolled in this degree program through the Urban Design Center will take their first year of coursework in Boise and complete their undergraduate coursework in Moscow. Students are then encouraged to pursue their professional degree, which is the next step to licensure, by continuing into our seamless Master of Landscape Architecture Program.
  • Master of Architecture

Accredited by the National Architecture Accrediting Board (NAAB), this program provides the professional training and credentials required to practice as a licensed architect.
