The Potato Association of America will hold its 102nd annual meeting July 22-26 in Idaho’s capital and the nation’s top potato producing state. The group is meeting in Boise to highlight the potato industry’s importance in southwestern Idaho. The meeting is expected to draw more than 300 association members. “We especially hope that Idaho potato growers will turn out for the industry day,” said University of Idaho researcher Pamela Hutchinson. Hutchinson, a weed scientist, serves on the organizing committee for the meeting with fellow College of Agricultural and Life Sciences researcher Nora Olsen, who co-chairs the local arrangements committee with Bret Nedrow of the J.R. Academy of Country Music (ACM) award winner and recording artist Rodney Atkins will headline a concert for returning University of Idaho students and the greater Palouse community Monday, Aug. 20, on the first day of fall semester classes. Atkins is a six-time ACM nominee and 2006 winner for Top Male Vocalist. His hits include “Farmer’s Daughter,” “If You’re Going Through Hell,” and new releases “Take a Back Road” and “Caught Up in the Country.” Atkins has been a part of country music for more than two decades and mixes the values of hard work, honesty and country living with the power of storytelling into his music.
