Connecting students and alumni

The Student Alumni Relations Board (SARB) has helped students and alumni forge bonds around Vandal pride since its creation in 1969.

With more than 50 years of student-led involvement and leadership, SARB plans and facilitates many traditional on- and off-campus events each year that facilitate a positive and full university experience.

When you join SARB, you get hands-on experience planning Homecoming, Parent and Family Weekends, Vandal Walk, an Easter egg hunt and more! Membership applications are reviewed at the start of each semester. Email SARB with any questions.

Tradition Keepers

The Tradition Keepers program was founded by members of the Student Alumni Relations Board in 2009 to rouse student and alumni engagement and cultivate shared experiences.

Participants come closer to becoming a U of I Tradition Keeper by visiting campus landmarks like the “I” Bench and the Administration Building steps or taking part in campus events like the Borah Symposium, Jazz Festival and Homecoming.

After completing 15 traditions, you will receive a silver Tradition Keepers lapel pin. After earning 35 tradition points, you will receive a Tradition Keeper medallion to wear at graduation or keep as a memento of your commitment to U of I’s history.

When you complete the Tradition Checklist, email it to SARB or bring it to Hays Hall, home of SARB on campus, at 1212 Blake Ave.
