Who is considered a transfer student?

At U of I, you're considered a transfer student if you are pursuing your first bachelor's degree and have completed 14 or more semester credits (21 quarter credits) of college coursework after high school graduation.

Students who completed college coursework while in high school, such as dual credit or concurrent enrollment, are considered first-year students.

Undergraduate transfer student admission requirements

The following requirements apply to transfer students who have completed 14 or more transferable semester credits after high school graduation.

2.0 GPA: Applicants must have a cumulative GPA of 2.0 or higher (C average) across transferable college-level coursework from accredited institutions.
2.8 GPA for College of Engineering: Students transferring from an out-of-state college or university into any program in University of Idaho’s College of Engineering must have a cumulative GPA of 2.80 or higher.

Some programs have additional transfer admission requirements. Check with your intended department for program-specific requirements.

International students should review the international admission requirements, as they differ from domestic transfer criteria.

Applicants with fewer than 14 transferable credits must also meet the admission requirements for first-year students.

You must submit:

An application for admission.
$50 application fee (non-refundable). No application fee required for Idaho residents.
Official transcripts from all colleges or universities attended.
High school records may aid in the scholarship selection process, so submission of high school credentials, although not required, is recommended.
Valid government-issued photo identification.

Note: If you do not meet the published criteria for admission at the time of review, you may apply to the Admissions Committee for consideration.

Undergraduate transfer student application process

Applying to University of Idaho as a transfer student involves creating your application account, providing required information and submitting your application materials. Follow the steps below to complete your undergraduate application through U of I and track your admission status.

Create your application account

Create a new account or log in to an existing account. Use a personal email address rather than a school email address to ensure you have continued access to your application information after graduation.

Start your undergraduate application

Select the undergraduate application and begin completing your transfer student application.

Provide required application information

The U of I undergraduate application includes the following sections:

Personal and background information: Provide your name, address, contact information and other biographical or citizenship information.
Enrollment information: Share details about your intended program, student type, preferred campus, planned start term and any SAT/ACT information. Not sure what major is right for you yet? You can apply as undecided and choose or change your major later.
Parent or family information: Provide parent or family contact information as requested.
Academic history: List the high schools or colleges you have attended, dates of attendance and any degrees or college credits earned.
Additional information: Provide information such as state residency and background details. This information helps U of I identify programs, resources and services that may support your student experience.
Scholarship information: Share your activities, sports, clubs, honors, work experience, community service and other accomplishments from the past four years. Your responses don't need to be formal essays — just a few notes that tell us more about you and your experiences. Completing this section is optional and is not required for WUE, Invitation to Idaho or Go Idaho! Scholarship consideration. We recommend completing it because your responses may be considered by up to 60 scholarship committees for more than 1,600 scholarship opportunities throughout your time at U of I.
Application signature: Confirm that the information submitted is accurate and complete.

Submit your application fee

Pay the $50 application fee when you submit your application. No application fee required for Idaho residents.

After submitting your application, return to your applicant portal to monitor your application status, review any requested materials and view admission updates.
