    Registration, transcripts and fees

    Each course offered through the ISI program is sponsored by Cooperating Idaho Institutions. Admission to these institutions is not required or granted when registering for an ISI course. Idaho residents and out-of-state students pay the same per-credit fee. Fees do not include textbooks, software or lab fees.

    Course fees

    • Undergraduate courses (100-400 level) cost $160 per credit and $30 non-refundable administrative fee per course.
    • Graduate courses (500 level) cost $200 per credit and $30 non-refundable administrative fee per course.

    There are no additional, out-of-state registration fees for students whose permanent residence is outside of Idaho.

    Course requests

    Enroll in course

    Follow these instructions to register:

    • You don’t need to apply for admission to any of the cooperating schools.
    • Find and register for a course using the ISI course catalog at Keep Learning Idaho.
    • Degree seeking students should obtain written confirmation that credits earned through ISI will be accepted and applied to their degrees as expected prior to registration.
    • Review the course fees.
    • Review the refund schedule.
    • Order textbooks and other course materials.

    Incarcerated students

    Incarcerated students may register using a form contained in a mailed Incarcerated Student Information Packet. Please email indepst@uidaho.edu to request a packet be mailed, then fill out the forms and mail them back with a check or payment information included.

    Course transcripts

    ISI does not send out transcripts. For questions about transcripts or to order an official transcript, contact the registrar’s office at the institution that sponsored your course (this information can be found on Canvas and on your course syllabus).

    • Wait at least three business days after receiving the Course Completion Letter before contacting the sponsoring institution's registrar's office. They must record the grade before the course appears on a transcript.
    • Official transcripts may be purchased from the credit-granting institution. ISI does not send out transcripts.
    • For contact information and information on which semester a final grade is recorded on the transcript, see Cooperating Institutions and locate the transcripts section.

       See Cooperating Institutions

    Proctor request

    If your course requires the use of a proctor,  you must submit a proctor request to specify your proctor. Proctor policies, selection information and proctor requirements are listed on this form and should be reviewed before completing the proctor request.

    Course extension

    Before a course expires, students may request a course extension ($110/course) which provides an additional four months of course access after the original end date of a course.

    Submit Course Extension Request

    Need a second course extension?

    Students with extenuating circumstances that make it impossible to complete an ISI course by the end of 16 months of enrollment may be eligible for an exception to the one extension policy. Extenuating circumstances include serious illness or injury or the death of a family member.

    If a student would like to appeal for a second extension due to an extenuating circumstance, they should submit an appeal to the one-extension policy at least 14 days before their first extension is scheduled to expire.

    The following information should be addressed in the appeal:

    • A summary of any conversations the student had with the instructor or the ISI office at the onset of the extenuating circumstance;
    • Evidence that the student has made consistent progress in the course throughout the period of enrollment;
    • Evidence that the student has completed 80 percent or more of the course work which includes all assignments and exams;
    • Evidence that the student maintained a passing grade as based on the requirements of the course sponsoring institution; and
    • Any supporting documentation the student is comfortable sharing.
    • Email indepst@uidaho.edu with any questions.

    If the appeal is granted, the ISI office will provide the student with a contract that stipulates the assignment(s) required to finish the course and the length of the second extension. The student must provide written acceptance of the contract. No student will be allowed more than three months to complete the required assignment(s).

    Course exchange

    Within 45 days of registration, courses are eligible for one course exchange. Course exchanges can be used to exchange one class for another if a student realizes they registered for the wrong course.

    • One course exchange per registration is allowed.
    • The exchange must be made within 45 days of registration.
    • The course completion date will remain the same as the original registration.
    • A nonrefundable $30 fee must be paid when you exchange a course, plus $25 for any assignment/exam submitted for the original course.
    • If the new course carries more credit than the original course, and if the new course is graduate level, the student will be charged for any additional credits or differences in fees.
    • If the new course carries less credit than the original course, or if the student is transferring from the graduate to undergraduate level, the difference will be refunded according to the refund schedule (see the refund schedule).

    Submit Course Exchange Request

    Drop course and request refund

    Refund Deadline Policy:

    • ISI courses are fully refundable when dropped within 21 days (except registration fee).
    • ISI courses are 50% refundable when dropped within 22-45 days (except registration fee).
    • ISI courses are non-refundable after 45 days.
    • ISI courses are non-refundable once the course has been completed.

    Refunds are processed automatically, returning funds to the form of payment used by the student to purchase the course.

    The payer is responsible for understanding fee payment and refunds policies and additional collection fees for charges assigned to an outside collection agency.

    Dropped course without a final grade will not appear on your academic transcript, and there will be no permanent academic record at any of the cooperating institutions.
