Udall Scholarship
The Udall Scholarship honors the legacies of Morris Udall and Stewart Udall, whose careers had a significant impact on Native American self-governance, health care, and the stewardship of public lands and natural resources. The Udall Foundation will award 60 scholarships of up to $7,000 each to sophomores and juniors committed to careers related to the environment, tribal public policy, or Native American health care. The Udall Foundation seeks future leaders across a wide spectrum of environmental fields, and future Native American and Alaska Native leaders in Native American health care and tribal public policy. Each scholarship provides the following: access to the Udall Alumni Network, a Scholar Orientation, and up to $7,000 for eligible academic expenses. Scholarship recipients are eligible for one year of scholarship support. Scholars selected during their sophomore year may be re-nominated during their junior year. - Current sophomore or junior (sophomore defined as a student planning two or more years of fulltime undergraduate study beginning the next academic year; junior defined as a student who plans one more year of full-time undergraduate study beginning the next academic year)
- Grade-point average of at least “B”
- U.S. citizen, U.S. national, or U.S. permanent resident
- Be committed to a career related to the environment, tribal public policy or Native American health care (only Native Americans and Alaska Natives are eligible to apply in tribal public policy or Native American health care)
- Be pursuing full-time study

The application opens on October 1. To gain access to the online application, send an email to Holly with the following information:

- Nationality: U.S. Citizen, U.S. National, or Permanent Resident
- Current Grade Level: Sophomore or Junior
To be considered as a U of I nominee for this scholarship, students must complete the following by the campus deadline:
- Submit the online application
- Ensure the three recommendation letters are submitted to Holly
- Submit a current official college transcript and transcripts for other colleges attended to Holly
- University of Idaho Deadline: February (contact Distinguished Scholarships Coordinator for exact date)
- Foundation Deadline: March (see foundation website for exact date)
The University of Idaho can nominate up to eight candidates, four nominees whose careers will benefit the environment, and four students whose careers will benefit Indian country (the tribal policy and Native health care categories). To be considered, students must complete their full application by the campus deadline for committee review. The committee review meeting will take place in February. Feedback to nominees for revision and resubmission will be given shortly after the review committee meeting. Students must submit their final application by the foundation deadline. Scholarship recipients are announced in May.
