Hands-on projects, interdisciplinary collaboration and research-driven learning are central to the M.S. experience. Working alongside faculty in areas such as natural language processing, AI governance, trustworthy AI, intelligent systems design and large-scale computing, you’ll complete original thesis research while strengthening your ability to evaluate emerging technologies, communicate technical findings and apply artificial intelligence to complex challenges across healthcare, cybersecurity, agriculture, energy, robotics and manufacturing. Through advanced coursework and faculty-guided research, you’ll prepare for technical and research-focused careers in AI engineering, intelligent systems development and data science across industry, government and academia.

Curriculum and research opportunities
The Master of Science in artificial intelligence is a 30-credit, research-focused graduate program combining advanced coursework with independent research and applied learning experiences. This degree can be completed in person or online. You’ll build technical expertise in machine learning, deep learning, reinforcement learning, optimization and applied data science while gaining hands-on experience developing intelligent systems that address real-world challenges. Working alongside faculty mentors, you’ll explore areas such as natural language processing, AI ethics, predictive modeling and large-scale computing systems through interdisciplinary research and thesis work. The program prepares you to contribute to emerging AI technologies across industries including healthcare, cybersecurity, agriculture, energy, robotics and advanced manufacturing while strengthening your ability to conduct research, communicate technical findings and lead innovation in the rapidly evolving field of artificial intelligence.
Degree roadmap
A thesis is required for the M.S. degree. A non-thesis M.Engr. option is available.

Learning outcomes
The Master of Science (M.S.) in Artificial Intelligence requires 30 graduate credits, including advanced core coursework and a research-based thesis. Designed for students interested in research, innovation and doctoral study, the program combines technical depth with independent investigation into emerging artificial intelligence technologies and applications.
