Applied music
Bachelor of Science
Fine-tune your skills
This interdisciplinary major is designed for students aspiring to pursue careers in both music and another field. While we offer degrees in performance, composition and education, this well-rounded liberal arts degree prepares you to make the most of your musical and non-musical talents.
As an applied music student, you’ll develop your artistry through hands-on experience in the creation and critical analysis of music. Rigorous courses in music theory, history and performance will refine your talent while courses outside of music will help you gain a strong academic foundation in the humanities and sciences.
If you plan to pursue a secondary major, please choose the B.A. or B.S. in applied music based on the degree of your second major.
Note: You must audition for admission into this program. Learn more about the Lionel Hampton School of Music audition process.

Explore available scholarships on our Scholarships website.
At the Lionel Hampton School of Music, we believe that our students should be supported for the entirety of their degree. All LHSOM-specific scholarships are designated as four-year awards — provided that the student makes progress toward a music degree, performs in LHSOM ensembles and maintains academic standards. To make this possible, our scholarship committee meets every year to consider both incoming and continuing students, and each of our scholarships can fund multiple eligible students, rather than awarding each scholarship to a single recipient. All incoming students are considered for a scholarship based on their audition for the LHSOM.
