Captain John Hedlund assumed duties as the Assistant Professor of Military Science at the University of Idaho on July 15, 2019.
Captain Hedlund received his commission and graduated from the United States Military Academy at West Point in 2013 with a bachelor of Science in Management. Captain Hedlund’s military education includes U.S. Army Small Arms Weapons Expert School, U.S. Army Ordnance Officer Basic Course, and the U.S. Army Logistics Captain’s Career Course.
Prior to his current assignment, Captain Hedlund spent six years in a variety of assignments. He served in two deployment rotations to Operation Spartan Shield in support of Operation Inherent Resolve in Iraq and attached with JSOTF-AP as an Advisor in Saudi Arabia.
Captain Hedlund’s awards and decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal w/ 3 Oak Leaf Clusters, and the Army Achievement Medal.
Captain Hedlund and his wife Shelby have two children, Audrey and Ava, aged 5 and 3.
