University of Idaho’s Student Recreation Center (SRC) offers patrons and the U of I community a nimble, multi-purpose facility serving a wide variety of day-to-day programming needs. An 80,000 square foot building with several off-site, auxiliary facilities, the SRC and its spaces were designed to support a wide range of recreation and wellbeing programs.

The SRC and its facilities are available for rent by U of I affiliates and the community with advance notice.

Reserve SRC spaces for your next event

Anyone can reserve SRC facilities, including the Multi-Activity Court, classroom, atrium, Guy Wicks Field, pickleball and tennis courts, sand volleyball courts, outdoor basketball courts and outdoor lawns. To request a space, simply complete the online reservation form.

Reservations are available by the hour for a nominal fee, with priority given to University of Idaho programs and departments. Approval of facility spaces is dependent on priority scheduling, availability, impact to existing programs, scope of event, weather or facility conditions and submission date of the request.

    Fitness and athletics spaces

    Weight training and circuit areas

The Student Recreation Center features three dedicated areas for strength training: the weight room, stretching hall and selectorized equipment area.

    Weight room

Build strength and endurance with a variety of free weights and machines. Located on the first floor, the weight room includes single-station machines, benches, barbells, dumbbells, a pull-up bar and a full range of free-weight equipment. Mats, exercise balls and other stretching tools are also available to support your full-body workout. A timing light system allows for structured 30-second workout intervals with 20-second recovery periods.

    Selectorized equipment

Ideal for all fitness levels, selectorized machines guide users through controlled, fixed-range movements. Simply insert a pin into the weight stack to adjust resistance. Each machine includes printed instructions, making it easy to use whether you're new to weight training or a seasoned athlete.

    Stretching hall

The second level of the SRC features an auxiliary space with additional strength training options and ample space for stretching, boxing and other individual workout options.  This space includes medicine balls, balance balls, heavy bags and speed bags with room for full range of motion.

    Indoor track

The overhead, three-lane, 1/9-mile indoor track encircles the second floor. Walkers, joggers and runners enjoy a climate-controlled workout above and separate from gym floor activities. The track is surfaced with a specialized rubber intended to reduce impact for distance running.

    Multi-Activity Court

    Student Recreation Center skate night

The Multi-Activity Court (MAC) is a large open area that can be used for many different types of recreation including soccer, lacrosse, hockey, volleyball and more. The facility includes built-in goal boxes on either end, a built-in scoreboard, two team bench areas with an adjacent penalty/official's box, overhead lighting and windows along the north edge of the building to provide additional natural daylight and spectator seating areas.

    Gold and Silver Gyms

On the north side of the SRC, two full-sized gyms provide ample space and equipment for you to participate in indoor sports including basketball, volleyball, badminton and more. The SRC’s equipment rental desk provides easy access to any necessary equipment for individuals and teams to quickly get into organized or pick-up games.

    Teaching and wellness spaces

    SRC classroom

The SRC includes a spacious classroom that seats up to 50 and is equipped with university-supported technology for both in-person and virtual instruction. This versatile space hosts a range of certification courses throughout the year, including CPR, Wilderness First Responder, Avalanche Education and Swiftwater Rescue. A unique feature of the room is its adjacent demonstration kitchen, where Vandal Health Education offers one-hour cooking demos on select weeknights during the academic year.

    Well Space

The Well Space, located inside the Student Recreation Center, is a calming environment where all students can relax, recharge, study and access health information. Created by Vandal Health Education, this space supports student wellness by providing a peaceful atmosphere designed to reduce stress and promote overall wellbeing.
