Annual Arboretum Concert Planned for Monday

July 07, 2022

MOSCOW, Idaho — July 7, 2022 — “Summer Breezes and Sweet Sounds,” the annual outdoor concert featuring local musicians and composers, will bring music to the University of Idaho Arboretum and Botanical Garden on Monday, July 11.

The free concert will begin 7 p.m. on the west side of the upper pond in the Arboretum on Nez Perce Drive, near the U of I Golf Course.

Performances are planned by faculty members from U of I, Washington State University and Lewis-Clark State College, as well as U of I students. Featured ensembles include the Klezmer group Gefilte Trout, the Arboretum Chamber Choir, the Arboretum Percussion Ensemble and world music from Navin Chettri and Adrian Crookston.

Dan Bukvich, a faculty member in the Lionel Hampton School of Music for more than 40 years, has coordinated the annual concert since its founding in 2000. He said this year’s concert will continue a tradition of music chosen to reflect the Arboretum’s distinctive outdoor setting.

Vandal theatre graduate David Billingsley will narrate “Silence Is an Illusion,” a spoken-word piece, accompanied by the Arboretum Chamber Players and Singers.

Free parking is available in the golf course lot, along Nez Perce Drive and near the barn in the Arboretum lot through Palouse River Drive. Limited transportation from Nez Perce Drive to the concert area will be available for anyone who has difficulty walking. In the case of rain, the concert will be canceled.

Attendees are encouraged to bring blankets or lawn chairs for seating. Organizers recommend arriving before 6:45 p.m. to find a seat.

The show is sponsored by the Arboretum Associates and the Lionel Hampton School of Music.
