U of I Winter 2021 Commencement to Be Held Dec. 11

MOSCOW, Idaho — Dec. 7, 2021 — Graduating students are eligible to receive a combined 614 degrees this December at the University of Idaho 2021 Winter Commencement. Candidates applied for 439 baccalaureate degrees, 136 master’s degrees, 25 doctoral degrees, 11 law degrees and three specialist degrees.

A total of 596 students statewide are eligible for graduation from U of I this semester. This winter’s commencement brings the university's all-time totals to 124,789 graduates and 133,445 degrees.

“The road for these graduates has not been an easy one. Their persistence through the pandemic shows their tenacity and commitment to succeed. We know we are sending our graduates out ready to compete in the global marketplace,” said U of I President Scott Green. “They represent what it means to be a Vandal.”

Winter Commencement will take place at 12:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 11, in the ASUI-Kibbie Activity Center in Moscow. The commencement speaker is Torrey Lawrence, provost and executive vice president of U of I.

U of I is awarding two honorary doctorates to distinguished alumni and friends of the university in recognition of their service and contributions to the state of Idaho and the nation. Awardees are:

  • Honorary Doctor of Engineering: Dennis Hanson, professional engineer and CEO of Hanson Industries, Spokane, Washington.
  • Honorary Doctor of Agricultural Science: Rick Waitley ‘73, president of the Association Management Group, Meridian.

Lineup for commencement begins at 11:30 a.m. Doors open to the public at 11 a.m. General seating in the Kibbie Dome is free and available on a first-come, first-served basis. No tickets are required. Premium seating is available through the U of I Ticket Office, via phone at 208-885-7212 or email at tickets@uidaho.edu. Guests with disabilities may contact Events and Support Services at 208-885-7929 prior to the ceremony for accommodations. The ceremony may also be viewed live at uidaho.edu/news/ui-live.

Commencement attendees should be aware of U of I security policies. In the interest of enhanced safety, a clear bag policy is in place and all guests are required to pass through a metal detector upon entry. COVID-19 protocols are also in place and, as of Dec. 3, require the use of masks in all university buildings. Artificial noisemakers are not permitted during commencement.

U of I is a tobacco-free campus; the use of cigarettes, e-cigarettes and smokeless tobacco is not permitted on university property. Alcoholic beverages can only be consumed in approved locations on university property as per Idaho State Board of Education policy.
