Bike/pedestrian underpass conceived by U of I engineering students is now open in Moscow!

The bike/pedestrian underpass first conceived by U of I engineering students is now formally open in the City of Moscow!
A graduate assignment in civil engineering professor Mike Lowry's 2010 class led to the exploration of a bike and pedestrian path under the Troy highway.
Feasibility studies began in 2011 by a senior design team of engineering students Tim Bishop, Ted Sorenson, Zach Swafford and Jazmine Watson.
The group calculated excavation and concrete costs and studied the last 50 years of rainfall to estimate potential flooding.
A 2015 study by TerraGraphics Environmental Engineering, Inc. also confirmed the underpass’ feasibility with similar flood calculations and construction costs.
The underpass, completed in 2018, gives bicyclists and pedestrians a safer route across Highway 8 and better use of Paradise Path!
