Is this a dual degree?
Graduates earn a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from the University of Idaho. Students also complete internationally recognized certifications that prepare them for careers in the global semiconductor industry.
What language are courses taught in at Hiroshima University? Do I need Japanese proficiency?
All courses in the MESA program are taught in English. Japanese proficiency is not required.
How is student housing handled in Japan and Idaho?
On-campus housing is available at both Hiroshima University and University of Idaho. Details will be provided during the admission process.
Is this a cohort program?
Yes. Students move through the program as a cohort with a pre-planned curriculum each semester.
How many students are accepted each year?
MESA enrolls up to 100 students annually, with plans to expand in response to industry demand in the U.S., Japan, Vietnam and Taiwan.

Who can apply?
First-time freshmen, both domestic and international, are eligible. Transfer students are not eligible for this program. Note: students with college credit earned during high school are considered first-time freshmen.

Apply to the University of Idaho, selecting Hiroshima University - Japan as your campus location and Electrical Engineering - Global BSEE (MESA Program) as your major.
Are there extra GPA or test score requirements?
No. Standard University of Idaho admission requirements apply. See U.S. resident undergraduate admissions or international undergraduate admissions for details.
Will I need visas for both countries?
Yes. Students must obtain visas for both Japan and the United States.

Some University scholarships may be available to Idaho residents. Outside scholarships may also be available. The MESA tuition rate is designed to remain highly competitive compared to other engineering programs.
