Agricultural literacy’s weakening is problematic, especially for younger generations in the United States, mostly because it fosters consumers’ distrust of the food system. A Potato’s Journey mitigates the knowledge gap in young children (5–8 years old) via Idaho’s most iconic crop, the potato. Full of colorful illustrations, easy-to-understand text, and a short narrative structure, each book page functions like a mini-lesson, building on core concepts in plant science, food systems, and environmental awareness. Through fun illustrations and accessible language, children learn how potatoes grow from tubers, the role of farmers, what plants need to survive, and the challenges of growing food. Plus, it celebrates potatoes’ nutritional value and economic importance, especially in Idaho. Please note: If you’re interested in printed copies of this publication, please contact Rabecka Hendricks at rhendricks@uidaho.edu and Nora Olsen at norao@uidaho.edu.
