UI Extension, Schitsu'umsh Reservation helps citizens through research-based, locally relevant education and programs. We offer programming in:

  • Agriculture
  • Natural resources
  • 4-H youth programs

UI Extension, Schitsu’umsh Reservation is part of the Federally Recognized Tribes Extension Program (FRTEP). The purpose of FRTEP is to support Extension educators on American reservations and tribal jurisdictions to address the unique needs of American tribal nations. Emphasis is placed on:

  • Developing profitable farming and ranching techniques
  • Providing 4-H and youth development experiences
  • Providing education and outreach on tribally-identified priorities while using a culturally-sensitive approach
  • Fostering leadership development and academic success

FRTEP collaborates with many programs on the reservation, including the Coeur d’Alene Tribe’s Education Department, Natural Resources Department, Tribal School, Food Distribution Program, Tribal wellness center youth programs, community organizations, Plummer Public Library, and the Plummer-Worley School District. We also partner with the One Sky One Earth Food Coalition, Success Center afterschool programs, and regional tribal organizations.

Our 4-H programming includes:

  • Juntos program: Academic success and coaching for middle and high school students, focusing on literacy, STEM, leadership and mentorship.
  • Gardening: Hands-on learning for youth.
  • Success Center Afterschool: Programming at Lakeside Elementary supporting literacy, art, healthy living and STEM.
  • Know Your Government: Civic engagement and leadership development.
  • Idaho State Teen Association Convention: Statewide leadership opportunities.
