Master gardener program
Each year, hundreds of master gardeners share their gardening knowledge as they serve their communities and the environment. The program is an intensive 14-week course that prepares you to assist other gardeners with their gardening and horticultural problems.
What master gardeners do
- Answer horticulture questions (by telephone and in person at the UI Extension office)
- Promote environmental responsibility
- Bring the joy of gardening to all ages
- Teach classes for large groups: civic organizations, church groups, garden clubs, schools and others
Becoming an Idaho Master Gardener
If you are interested in being certified as an Idaho Master Gardener, contact the UI Extension, Fremont County office at fremont@uidaho.edu or 208-624-3102 to learn about upcoming classes and request an application.
Time commitment
- 36 hours of classroom time from mid-January to mid-April. You will be given several open book quizzes and reading assignments.
- 40 hours of hands-on training arranged with a UI Extension educator.
Certification and credit
Upon completion of the course, Idaho Master Gardeners are considered paraprofessionals in home horticulture.
University of Idaho credit is available for those interested.
Plant diagnostics
We provide free consultations to help diagnose plant issues in your garden or landscape. Samples can be dropped off at our office.
