4-H Youth Development

4-H is the largest youth organization worldwide, reaching all 50 states and 80 countries. Through University of Idaho Extension 4-H Youth Development reaches every county in Idaho.

Members have fun and make new friends while gaining leadership, citizenship and useful life skills through a wide variety of projects.

4-H is open year-round to youths ages 5-18 without regard to race, creed, gender, marital status, handicaps or disadvantages, economic or ethnic backgrounds.

The study of 4-H Positive Youth Development shows 4-H youths outperform their peers in:

  • Earning higher grades
  • Attending college
  • Contributing to their communities

Enrollment

You can enroll in 4-H at any time throughout the year. Some projects have enrollment deadlines in order for members to show them during the county fair.

Market Animal Projects

4-H Market Animal Projects help youth practice leadership skills, develop integrity and sportsmanship, demonstrate knowledge of husbandry and an understanding of consumer aspects of the industry and explore career and job opportunities.
