    Gardening and horticulture

    UI Extension, Bannock County offers a variety of resources and programs to help you better understand horticulture and gardening issues. The Idaho Master Gardener Program trains citizens to share their gardening knowledge through community outreach. Contact the UI Extension, Bannock County office at bannock@uidaho.edu or 208-236-7310 for current class dates.

    Master gardener program

    Each year, hundreds of master gardeners share their gardening knowledge as they serve their communities and the environment.

    What master gardeners do

    • Answer horticulture questions (by telephone and in person at the UI Extension office)
    • Promote environmental responsibility
    • Bring the joy of gardening to all ages
    • Teach classes for large groups: civic organizations, church groups, garden clubs, schools and others

    Becoming an Idaho Master Gardener

    If you are interested in being certified as an Idaho Master Gardener, contact the UI Extension, Bannock County office at bannock@uidaho.edu or 208-256-7310 to learn about upcoming classes and request an application.  

    Participants are required to complete 50 hours of classwork, 50 hours of hands-on practicum, and should have effective practice in public communication skills.

    Advanced Idaho Master Gardener

    The Advanced Idaho Master Gardener program includes a series of in-depth horticulture classes that strengthen gardening skills and knowledge. Participants must be certified Idaho Master Gardeners and be invited to participate in the advanced program. Volunteers are required to complete 36 hours of classwork and 33 hours of hands-on practicum.

    Weeds of the west

    If you have a weed you want identified, please bring a sample to the UI Extension, Bannock County office. We can help identify them and provide ideas on how to stop or prevent them. For more information visit the USDA Plants Database.

    Creepy, crawling critters

    Do you have concerns about the creepy, crawling critters at your house? We offer a wide range of informational bulletins to help you with your infestations. Visit our publication catalog for information on beneficial insects, insect pests, insect pollinators and pests and pesticides.

    Trees and gardens

    If you have questions regarding problems with your lawn or trees, we have a horticulture specialist in our office to assist you. Please call us at 208-236-7310.
