Spring & Summer Commencement
Updated July 7, 2020
As you are aware, Ada County and many other areas are experiencing spikes in COVID-19 cases. Watching cases across our state and region increase is disheartening. It is difficult to see our colleagues facing the many challenges this virus brings. It is also hard to make the tough decisions that come from such a spike.
An analysis of those planning to attend the in-person, Aug. 1 Commencement reveals that just under half live in counties currently experiencing a spike in cases. Unlike the preparations we are making for fall semester, we cannot reasonably test all students, parents, relatives or friends expected for this event. For your safety, the safety of our Moscow community and the many communities we travel through, we will not hold an in-person Commencement event.
Summer graduates will receive a "Commencement in a Box," as did our spring graduates. Yet, we cannot let Aug. 1 go by without further honoring your accomplishments. We will take this celebration online with special videos created specifically for you that will hit your inbox at 9:30 a.m. Aug. 1. We will also celebrate together on our social media channels. We are proud of you and want to celebrate with you in these unprecedented times. You are invited to a future, in-person commencement when it is safe for us all to gather together again.
We will always remember the Class of 2020 — your tenacity, your determination and your Vandal spirit. Welcome to the ranks of Vandal Alumni!
