The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering offers a Master of Science (M.S.) Geological Engineering degree online through Engineering Outreach. This degree program is available with either a thesis or non-thesis option.
Geological engineering is the professional discipline that relies on the use of geologic conditions and implications for the following:
- design and construction of civil and mining projects
- evaluation and mitigation of natural and human-caused geologic hazards
- exploration and development of mineral and energy resources
Applicants for admission generally should have a B.S. degree in some area of engineering or geology. If you have a B.S. degree in geology, you will likely need to take several remedial courses in mathematics and engineering before you are considered for admission; they are listed in the departmental requirements.
Students enrolled in this program will take courses in geological engineering, civil engineering, statistics, hydrogeology and site characterization.
