Weddings

Weddings are not allowed in either arboretum at this time. But, there are two sites on campus that have been successfully used for weddings in the recent past. One is the Administration Lawn and the other is the Shattuck Amphitheater. Both have fees associated with using the sites.

Campus Recreation schedules the Shattuck Amphitheater, and Facilities schedules the Ad Lawn. A reservation can be put in for either, if you go to the Facilities Reservation website. If you are interested in either site, start by filling out that form and sending it via email back to the appropriate department. If you have plans for food; seating; tents; sound systems; etc., then University Support Services and Sodexo would need to be involved, as they have the contracts for handling those services here on campus. Since this is a private event, you’ll also need a Facilities Use Agreement and Insurance to cover the event, but that is detailed at the website as well.

Classroom Work and Research

Academic activities are encouraged and promoted. Studies could assist with the documentation of environmental changes as the arboreta age. From a wide array of student studies — ranging from water chemistry, bird censuses, insect collecting, plant hardiness, landscape design, and phenology of flowering — data could be generated, publicized, and saved. Inventorying the living trees in the Shattuck Arboretum and comparing that to historical records is another potential class project. Instructors are encouraged to share their findings with Arboretum staff arboretum@uidaho.edu or 208-885-5978.

Educational Arboretum Tours

The University of Idaho arboreta are readily available for public school and other educational programs. Please make arrangements with the Arboretum staff arboretum@uidaho.edu or 208-885-5978.
