Keeping campus beautiful, safe and functional
University of Idaho Facilities plays a vital role in ensuring campus buildings, grounds and infrastructure support the needs of our students, employees and visitors. From maintaining classrooms and research labs to plowing walkways and managing utilities and recycling programs, our dedicated team helps make U of I a welcoming, functional and sustainable environment for all.

Services we provide
Custodial services
We keep campus spaces clean, safe and ready for learning. Our custodial staff maintains classrooms, residence halls, multi-use spaces like the Kibbie Dome and ICCU Arena, and more. Services include routine and emergency cleaning, light bulb replacement, pest control, snow/ice removal from entrances and event support.
Grounds and landscape services
From lush green spaces to safe walkways, our Grounds team maintains over 100 acres of campus.
- Hardscapes: Maintain and repair roads, sidewalks, parking lots and exterior signage.
- Landscapes: Maintain lawns, trees, flowers, irrigation systems and athletic turf.
- Snow removal: Our crews monitor conditions daily and clear snow beginning as early as 4 a.m. when needed.
- Animal management services: U of I follows a humane nuisance animal policy. If an animal on campus poses a safety or property risk, Facilities or trained contractors will respond.
Garage shop services and facilities shop stores
Our Garage Shop maintains and repairs vehicles and equipment used by Facilities and other university departments, prioritizing work that supports campus safety and operations.
The Facilities Shop Stores stocks a wide range of maintenance and repair supplies — including electrical, plumbing, hardware, carpentry, HVAC, custodial items, tools and more — to support ongoing campus maintenance. The team also assists with research and procurement of special-order materials requested by Facilities staff.
Building maintenance and operation services
Our team of 40+ trades professionals maintains the systems that power U of I. We oversee building safety systems, HVAC, plumbing, electrical, carpentry, remodeling projects and more. We also provide custom design and fabrication support for campus needs and research projects. Safety, energy efficiency and preventive maintenance are key priorities.

Waste management and recycling services
U of I is committed to sustainability through responsible waste reduction and resource reuse. Our Waste Management division oversees:
- Recycling: Campus-wide programs that minimize landfill use by collecting and processing recyclable materials.
- Solid waste: Coordinated pickup and proper disposal of campus-generated trash.
- Composting: A dedicated composting site that diverts organic waste from the landfill.
- Surplus property: Reuse and redistribution of items no longer needed by campus departments.

Utilities management services
We manage essential services like heating, water and electricity in partnership with Sacyr Plenary Utility Partners Idaho and McKinstry. This includes operation of the District Energy Plant and support for utility infrastructure, shutdowns and new system planning.
