Explore the human mind

Why do people respond the way they do to a new product, app, or system? What makes an interface intuitive—or frustrating? The online Master of Science in psychology program at U of I helps you answer these questions and more — blending psychology, engineering and user experience to prepare you for an in-demand role in tech and product design.

Human factors professionals who understand how people think play a critical role in making technology safer, smarter and more engaging. In this research-driven program, you’ll explore how users process information, make decisions and interact with digital and physical systems. Your insights will shape the design of products, workspaces and environments to enhance performance, usability and well-being.

In this program, you will:

  • Analyze how humans engage with technology and the built environment
  • Apply psychology-based research to improve product design, performance and safety
  • Explore user behavior in contexts like consumer habits and work
  • Study topics such as ergonomics, human-computer interaction, interface design and human error
  • Learn how to optimize products from development through user testing

Why choose U of I’s online M.S. in psychology?

  • 100% online — no campus visits required
  • In-state tuition rates for all students, regardless of location
  • Learn from expert faculty who are advancing the field through applied research
  • Build your skills in UX, human performance and system design without pausing your career
  • Already envisioning yourself in this role? Start building the future of user-centered design with U of I’s online psychology master’s program.
