U of I Commencement Ceremonies to honor more than 2,400 spring and winter graduates

Ceremonies across Idaho will celebrate graduates prepared to lead, serve and contribute in their communities

MOSCOW, Idaho — More than 1,800 students are eligible to graduate this spring at University of Idaho’s Spring Commencement Ceremonies, alongside more than 600 Winter 2025 graduates invited to participate. Ceremonies begin Saturday, May 16, and continue across the state through Wednesday, May 20. All ceremonies will be livestreamed at uidaho.edu/live.

The 1,805 eligible students who applied to graduate this spring applied for seven associate degrees, 1,330 bachelor’s degrees, 337 master’s degrees, 56 doctoral degrees and 141 juris doctorates. Another 321 are receiving academic certificates and five are receiving specialist certificates.

“Our students learn by doing so that they’re prepared to hit the ground running as graduates,” U of I President Scott Green said. “They’re stepping into a rapidly changing world that needs their ideas, energy and advanced skills to compete.”

Moscow commencement schedule

Two commencement ceremonies will be held Saturday, May 16, at the P1FCU Kibbie Dome:

  • 9:30 a.m.: Colleges of Art and Architecture; Education, Health and Human Sciences; Graduate Studies; Law; and Letters, Arts and Social Sciences.
  • 2 p.m.: Colleges of Agricultural and Life Sciences; Business and Economics; Engineering; Natural Resources; and Science.

Clear bags are required, and attendees must pass through metal detectors. Graduating students may not bring bags into the venue.

No weapons of any kind may enter the venue, including for concealed carry permit holders.

U of I is a tobacco-free campus, and alcohol is permitted only in approved locations on university property.

Boise and Idaho Falls commencement schedule

  • Boise: 7:30 p.m. Monday, May 18, at the Boise Centre, 850 W. Front St.
  • Idaho Falls: 7 p.m. Wednesday, May 20, at the Bennion Student Union, 1784 Science Center Drive.

Keynote speakers

  • Moscow: Lisa Grow, president and CEO of IdaCorp and Idaho Power Company, has spent nearly four decades with Idaho Power and is recognized for her leadership in the utility industry and advocacy for STEM education.
  • Boise: Dennis L. Johnson, chair of the board of directors of IdaCorp/Idaho Power Company, is a longtime business and community leader with decades of experience in finance, law and corporate leadership.
  • Idaho Falls: Emma Redfoot, director of site risk and environmental compliance at Oklo, works at the intersection of environmental stewardship and nuclear innovation, helping advance next-generation clean energy systems.

Special honors

The President’s Medallion, awarded to individuals who have made significant contributions to society and the state of Idaho, will be presented to:

  • Erik Peterson, a retired U.S. Army lieutenant general with 38 years of leadership in complex global operations.
  • Dr. Edmund O. Schweitzer III, a pioneer in digital power system protection and founder of Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories.

An honorary doctorate will be awarded to:

  • Warren Bakes, an educator and longtime leader in Idaho schools and teacher preparation whose career has spanned more than five decades in K-12 and higher education.

Degree breakdown by location

  • Moscow: Seven associate, 1,242 bachelor’s, 43 law, 178 master’s, 50 doctoral (1,520 total degrees)
  • Boise: 98 law, 10 master’s, three doctoral (111 total degrees)
  • Coeur d’Alene: 14 bachelor’s, three master’s, two doctoral (19 total degrees)
  • Idaho Falls: one bachelor’s, seven master’s, one doctoral (nine total degrees)
  • Online: 73 bachelor’s, 139 master’s (212 total degrees)

U of I has graduated more than 136,825 students with more than 146,194 degrees since its foundation.
