MOSCOW, Idaho — University of Idaho is partnering with Google to give students no-cost access to the company’s most advanced artificial intelligence (AI) tools and training.

Through the new Google AI for Education Accelerator, U of I will offer access to Google AI tools, AI training and Google Career Certificates — all designed to build job-ready skills in today’s fast-changing workforce.

“Partnering with Google brings our new strategic plan to life,” U of I President Scott Green said. “AI is woven into each of our goals for the rest of the decade — from how we teach and learn to how we conduct research and serve Idaho. Giving Vandals early access to Google’s most advanced AI tools helps them lead that change, not just adapt to it.”

The partnership expands U of I’s ongoing focus on innovation and practical learning experiences that prepare students for real-world impact. From classroom projects to workforce development, the collaboration connects Idaho learners with global industry expertise while keeping education accessible and affordable.

“Every student deserves access to the AI skills needed to succeed in today’s job market,” said Lisa Gevelber, founder of Grow with Google. “We are proud to partner with University of Idaho to provide students with our most advanced AI products and training, ensuring they know how to make the most of the technology in the classroom and beyond. This program builds on years of us working together with universities to help students prepare for exciting careers.”

U of I students will have no-cost access to the following tools:

  • Google Career Certificates: These certificates are industry-recognized credentials that equip students with skills for in-demand fields including cybersecurity, data analytics, IT support and more. An employer consortium of more than 150 top companies — including Google — use these certificates for hiring or upskilling. To date, the program has helped train over 1 million people for higher-paying jobs. Over 70% of certificate graduates report a positive career impact within six months of completion.
  • AI training: Google’s AI training teaches foundational AI skills, effective prompting techniques and responsible AI usage. Students will also learn how to use AI tools for academic and career-related tasks, such as creating study guides, building resumes and practicing for interviews.
  • Gemini and NotebookLM: AI-powered tools that help users learn, create and organize information more effectively. Gemini serves as a conversational AI assistant that supports writing, research and problem-solving, while NotebookLM helps users summarize materials, connect ideas across documents and prepare study or presentation notes.
