U of I College of Engineering Diversity Initiative Recognized by American Society for Engineering Education

The U of I College of Engineering has been recognized as a Bronze Level institution in the American Society for Engineering Education’s (ASEE) national Diversity Recognition Program. The recognition is given to universities across the U.S. that are committed to establishing support for underrepresented groups in engineering; assessing institutional policies, culture and climate; and implementing programs to strengthen K-12 and community college outreach for long-term growth. U of I, Idaho Falls Professors Lend Expertise to 2019 PROSE Awards Subject Category Winner

A reference guide that includes contributions from two University of Idaho, Idaho Falls professors, "Space Safety and Human Performance," is a subject category winner in the 2019 PROSE Awards. Awarded through the Association of American Publishers, winners were selected from more than 500 entries and 165 finalists that have made significant contributions to their field of study. The book includes contributions from Lee Ostrom, University of Idaho associate dean in the College of Engineering and center executive officer in Idaho Falls; and Cheryl Wilhelmsen, Idaho Falls technology management and industrial technology program director. 1,502 Students will Graduate from U of I This Spring

MOSCOW, Idaho — April 30, 2019 — A total of 1,502 University of Idaho students statewide are eligible for graduation this spring, earning a combined 1,562 degrees. U of I students have applied for 1,153 bachelor’s degrees, 91 law degrees, 37 doctoral degrees, 13 specialist degrees and 268 master’s degrees. Some students will have earned multiple degrees. This year's commencement brings the university's all-time total to 121,973 graduates and 130,421 degrees. Read more

Maxine (Max) Dakins

Maxine (Max) Dakins, a tenured professor in the College of Natural Resources, passed away March 6, 2019. Max was well-known for her passion for helping students achieve their goals. She was especially adept at supporting and guiding nontraditional students as they faced their fears of returning to college and became successful students. Max’s belief that people should define their own self of success earned her great respect from students, staff and faculty. Read more

Welcome to New Associate Director of CAES

John Russell is the new associate director at the Center for Advanced Energy Studies (CAES), a research, education and innovation consortium working to solve regional and national energy challenges. Russell, a joint-faculty appointment with the U of I and Idaho National Laboratory, will connect U of I's network of faculty, students, facilities and capabilities with the CAES consortium, which also includes INL, Boise State University, Idaho State University, the University of Wyoming and other affiliates. Russell takes the position effective Nov. 19. Read more
