The cereal leaf beetle, Oulema melanopus L. (Coleoptera: Chrysomelidae), is native to Europe and Asia, where it is widely distributed and is considered an occasional pest of small grains. Its first U.S. detection was observed in Michigan in 1962, and it has since spread throughout North America. In the Pacific Northwest, it is a pest of economic concern to cereal grains, grass forage and grass seed crops, and other grass-host species.
