BY Oliver T. Neher, John J. Gallian

December 31, 2010

In the 2000s, the incidence of root rot, which causes major sugar beet damage, increased in Idaho's Magic Valley. Learn about the different kinds that exist and which ones to look out for in the Pacific Northwest (Rhizoctonia solani) in this full-color, seven-page publication. Plant pathologists discuss the disease symptoms (with color-photograph examples) and the causal organism and recommend the use of various control measures, including cultural practices, fungicides, beneficial organisms and resistant varieties.
