Western Salsify Management

BUL-1138

bul-1138 cover

BY Danielle Gunn, Ron Patterson

May 26, 2026

Western salsify is a weed native to Eurasia that has spread widely across North America. It resembles a giant dandelion. Large infestations aren’t usually an issue, since the plant is nonaggressive and generally does not outcompete native vegetation. However, under favorable conditions, it forms dense stands and crowds out desirable forage species. Learn more about this hardy weed and its management in this succinct and illustrated bulletin, including herbicide options for use in a variety of landscapes.
