A Guide to Developing Food Coalitions and Policy Councils in Idaho

Consumer interest in locally grown food has strengthened Idahoans' desire to develop community-based coalitions. Although these burgeoning efforts are relatively new, by 2019 citizens had established eight groups in the state. A team of University of Idaho educators have studied the success of these maverick organizations and share their findings and advice about developing your own in this full-color bulletin. Along with learning the basics (e.g., the difference between a food coalition and a food-policy council), discover how to form a food coalition using a five-step approach, where and how to seek funding, group maintenance tips, suggested actions and how to measure your group's impact. A couple of brief case studies flesh out the information.
