The first steps toward a career as a medical technologist (scientist).
The pre-medical laboratory scientist focus is an advising program to help students select courses and become well prepared for application to a medical laboratory scientist program.
The steps toward your career begin by taking the required courses, completing a three- or a four-year program, and gaining required clinical experience. Course work will include chemistry, organic chemistry and/or biochemistry, general biology, microbiology, immunology, pathogenic bacteriology, and math. Common pre-medical laboratory science majors include biology and microbiology. You should also seek out volunteer opportunities to shadow health care professionals.
Completing these steps are prerequisites for applying to a medical laboratory science program for one additional year of specialized training.
