The Palouse Youth Climbing Team provides personalized coaching and a fun, supportive after-school program for youth ages 11–17. Team members grow in a positive, goal-driven environment that encourages both individual progress and team development.

Membership includes access to team-building activities and covers entry fees for the U of I Climbing Center’s two annual competitions — Monster Match and the Palouse Climbing Festival.

Cost and schedule

Season dates: Oct. 21, 2025 - March 26, 2026
Practice times: Tuesdays and Thursdays, 3:45-5:45 p.m. (no practice during U of I holidays) 
Cost: $1,000 per season

Your team fee supports high-quality programming led by experienced coaches and U of I staff. The season includes:

  • A 1:6 coach-to-climber ratio
  • 45 practices across the season
  • Personalized goal setting and skill assessments
  • All equipment rentals and discounts on gear
  • Coaching support at practices and local competitions
  • Customized training plans for personal and team growth
  • Organized team activities, including competitions, team building and jersey-making
  • Free entry into the Monster Match (Oct. 31, 2025) and Palouse Climbing Festival (March 7, 2026)
  • Year-round access to climb during designated youth hours
  • Support for team-related expenses (e.g., coach training, development and equipment)

Note: Climbers must have full payment submitted before participating in practices.

Equipment requirements

Climbers must bring their own gear. Cubbies are available in the facility during practice times.  

Please bring:

  • A UIAA-approved climbing harness
  • A belay device (tubular or assisted braking) — required for climbers 14+
  • Climbing shoes
  • A personal chalk bag or bucket, plus a chalk sock or liquid chalk

Participants should wear comfortable athletic clothing that allows for a full range of movement. You may also bring water with you but no other food or drink are permitted in the Climbing Center.

Check-in process

Coaches will meet participants outside the Climbing Center 15 minutes before practice begins (at 3:30 p.m.). The team will start the practice session together.
