Hacking For Homebuilding Winners Announced

A University of Idaho student team was among the winners of the Hacking for Homebuilding competition at Boise Entrepreneur Week. Their project, VandalEyes, is a security system focused on jobsite security to protect contractors and builders from things walking off the jobsite, which increases the cost of the home and delays. In what has been a tumultuous time for many, food service workers in the Treasure Valley have had to navigate a complicated series of issues. The coronavirus has affected nearly every business and local restaurant, and their workers are no different. Many businesses are experiencing a labor shortage and other underlying problems. The Moscow Chamber of Commerce has released a study on the Economic Contributions of Vandal Athletics, conducted by Vandal Student Enterprises in the College of Business and Economics and sponsored by the Chamber and the University of Idaho. The study investigates the economic contributions of the UI Athletic program on the Latah County regional economy while also examining the broader role of Vandal Athletics within the UI community. While total employment in the state is comparable to pre-pandemic figures, one expert from the University of Idaho says the pandemic has changed the way people search for jobs. “There are a number of factors at play,” said Terry Grieb, University of Idaho professor of finance. “The things that drive employment and unemployment vary in any region.
