Idaho FCS Teacher Apparel and Textiles Professional Development Workshop
Come “camp out” with us in the Niccolls Building studios for a deep dive into textiles and apparel techniques. Two days of faculty-led workshops will tackle digital illustration, surface design, hand knitting and garment construction. Dormitory housing available. Monday breakfast and all lunches are included. The final day will feature a tour of a local company. This workshop meets the requirements for two professional development credits. Register by Tuesday, April 30 for early bird pricing.
Monday, June 24
Surface Design — 9 a.m. to noon — Sonya Meyer
Learn techniques that will change the texture and feel of fabric. Participants will alter fabric surface through various sewing, pressing and embellishment techniques. These techniques can be applied to any sewing project to create unique designer looks.
Adobe Illustrator — 1-5 p.m. — Lori Wahl
Learn to use industry standard vector illustration software Adobe Illustrator in this 4-hour workshop. Participants will become familiar with the tools apparel designers used through the creation of garment drawings and repeating patterns for print design.
Tuesday, June 25
Hand Knitting — 9 a.m. to noon — Lori Wahl
Learn to knit using only the knit stitch on circular knitting needles. Participants will learn to cast on, knit and reduce stitches for shaping as they create a chunky, hipster beanie.
Garment Construction — 1-5 p.m. — Chelsey Lewallen
In this workshop students will learn how to construct a shirt from start to finish using a commercial pattern. We will focus on how to measure and mark the pattern on fabric, accurate cutting techniques and the order of operations/method in which the shirt is constructed. Students will develop skills and learn techniques to produce professional quality garments on specialized machinery as well as ways to mimic those techniques using home sewing machines.

Tour of a local business — 9-11 a.m.
For those interested in staying at the Best Western, please choose the “without Housing” option when registering for this workshop. You will need to make your own reservations at the University Inn Best Western Plus. Ten double-queen rooms are being held in a block at a rate of $119 per night under the name Textiles Base Camp.

- Deluxe hot breakfast buffet is complimentary for hotel guests 6 a.m.-9 a.m. Monday-Friday and 6 a.m.-10 a.m. Saturday and Sunday.

The room block and special rates will be held until Thursday, May 23, 2019. At that time, any unreserved rooms will be released for general reservations. Reservations may continue to be made after this date on a space available basis. The group rate will continue to be offered unless availability is limited.
