International Resources
Due to limited access to English proficiency testing, during the period impacted by the COVID-19 the College of Graduate Studies will temporarily accept for admission the Duolingo English Test as an alternative to TOEFL and IELTS. The Duolingo English Test is a language proficiency test that can be taken online and on-demand. A minimum score of 110 is required for admission. Individual graduate programs may require higher scores and/or schedule additional interviews to verify English comprehension.
For information on the test, please visit the Duolingo website.

English Proficiency
For admission purposes, all students must meet the English language proficiency/competency requirement.
There are several options we accept. For details, visit our English Proficiency Options page.
A waiver of this requirement is automatically granted to applicants whose education is from countries where English is recognized as an official/native language.
Conditional Admission
Conditional admission may be granted to applicants who qualify academically, but have not yet achieved the University of Idaho's minimum English language requirements for full admission. Our graduate programs are highly competitive and therefore may not be able to accept students in the conditional admission category.
Foreign Credential Evaluation Services
U of I Graduate Admissions Office offers a complimentary transcript evaluation service for our applicants. The process of grade conversion consists of balancing many variables to arrive at an equitable assessment of individual achievement. Grading practices are dynamic and can vary within a given country or even within a single institution.
We will accept evaluations from professional credential evaluation services. There is a list of the five professional credential evaluation services from which U of I will accept evaluations.
International Degree Equivalency Guide
In order to apply as a graduate student, applicants must possess the equivalent of a U.S. bachelor's degree.
