Friendship Family Program

About the Program

The Friendship Family Program is an International Programs Office (IPO) initiative that matches international students and scholars with a family in the Moscow area to meet once a semester or more. This is an excellent way for U of I's international students to better understand American conversation, culture and our amazing Moscow community.

If you are interested in applying for the program, please complete this online survey.

Frequently Asked Questions

Whether you are a local family or an international student seeking to be paired with a family, this program helps build a bridge to mutual understanding by providing enriching cross-cultural engagement.

As international students, this is a fabulous way to better understand and adjust to life in the United States and get more involved with the local Moscow community.

As local Friendship Families, this is a fantastic way to better understand our world and offer hospitality to those who are far away from their home countries.

Availability

  • Friendship Families must meet with their matched student or scholar for at least 2 hours once a semester throughout their commitment to the program for a full year.
  • It is recommended to meet at least once a month during their first semester at University of Idaho to assist with any needs they may have.
  • All participants must attend the Welcome Back Picnic hosted by the International Programs Office at the beginning of the fall semester.

Each Friendship Family gets to decide how many students/scholars they would like to be assigned.

We understand that there are often unforeseen circumstances that may cause participants to withdraw from the program. If this happens, please email ipoprograms@uidaho.edu.
