Alumni Association names new executive director
Students and faculty of the Calder School take part in an activity put on by the school and U of I's College of Natural Resources, including using CNR's logging simulator and learning from CNR faculty about forest industry careers. For UCM story about how U of I resources in Moscow, and the county Extension office in St. Maries, assists small, rural schools by bringing technology and lectures to them to aid their education.

A customized fit 

Do your career goals fall outside the mold of a traditional graduate program? If the answer is yes, then interdisciplinary studies could be the perfect fit for you.

This degree allows you to reach across disciplines to design a plan of study that meets your unique academic needs. As a student in this rigorous graduate program, you will work with your faculty mentor to create a customized degree plan that integrates courses from two or more academic departments. You will also choose between a thesis and non-thesis option and lead independent research that supports your professional interests.

Application information

Applicants for the M.S. interdisciplinary studies program must meet the following degree-specific admission requirements: 

  • Education level: Bachelor's
  • GPA: 3.0
  • GRE: No
  • TOEFL/IELTS/Duolingo: 79/6.5/115 (for applicants whose education was completed in countries where English is not an official language)
  • Number of references: Three
  • Other requirements: Yes
    • A written statement specifically describing the interdisciplinary proposal and outlining the rationale for undertaking an interdisciplinary program
    • A proposed study plan unanimously approved by the student's program committee and the dean of the College of Graduate Studies
    • The name of a faculty member with graduate faculty status from one of the disciplines named in the proposal who has agreed to counsel the student in the proposed program and serve as major professor
    • A program committee formed of at least four faculty members
