Unearth smarter ways to manage earth’s resources

Gathering rock samples and searching for dinosaur tracks in Utah’s Hurricane Valley. Researching glaciers in Iceland. Uncovering evidence of volcanic splatter on Mars.

As a geology student, the world is your lab. Your research can take you from Alaska to Bolivia to New Zealand and beyond. You’ll spend three weeks at field school camping, hiking, exploring formations and identifying rock samples. Many students join our internationally recognized faculty on research trips to destinations like Iceland and Hawaii.

Building off a 100-year tradition of training leaders, our program is among the top-ranked for quality and value in the nation. The geology sustainable mining and earth resources management option introduces students to modern mining methods. You’ll work with regional employers to learn about how mining is planned, implemented and how we can restore and maintain surrounding natural landscapes.
