Build strong foundations for children, families and communities
In this program, you'll discover how children learn, grow and thrive from infancy through adolescence. Grounded in developmental science and enriched by hands-on learning experiences, the program equips you with the knowledge and practical skills needed to support children and families in diverse educational, community and research settings.
Explore the biological, cognitive, social-emotional and cultural factors that shape development while learning to design inclusive, developmentally appropriate environments for all children, including those with diverse learning needs. Through coursework, field experiences and research opportunities, you’ll develop the ability to critically evaluate scientific evidence, translate research into practice, and advocate for children and families.
Much of your education will take place in real-world settings where you will observe and document children playing and interacting, create stimulating learning environments, and meet with parents to discuss their children’s progress.
This degree is offered fully on the Moscow campus. In Coeur d’Alene, the degree is offered in partnership with North Idaho College as a 2+2 program. Learn more about transfer pathways.

The B.S. in child development is a 120-credit program combining coursework and applied learning experiences. Students build technical expertise while gaining hands-on experience in the field.

This degree is approved for Idaho LAUNCH, a grant that supports Idaho students pursuing high-demand careers. Students enrolling under the 2026–27 Academic Catalog may be eligible for up to $4,000 per year / $8,000 total in scholarship funding through the Idaho LAUNCH program.

Undergraduate applications open each September and admissions are processed on a rolling basis. Qualified students are admitted and considered for scholarships and financial aid as applications are received.
