A. General. Utilities and Engineering is responsible for the planning and monitoring of campus utility infrastructure, coordination with external utility providers, management of energy delivery systems, campus wide energy conservation, and plant engineering.

B. Procedures.

B-1. Planned Utility Disruption Notification. When it is necessary to shutdown utilities to an area of campus, Facilities Maintenance and Operations (FMO) personnel will notify all deans, directors, and department heads by telephone and/or email, as well as posting the affected building at least 48 hours in advance of the shutdown. Deans, directors, and department heads are charged with the responsibility of notifying the appropriate individuals in their area of the shutdown. Notification will be made for the shutdown of the following utilities:

B-2. Requests for Utility Shutdowns. All planned utility system shutdowns require a request to be submitted to FMO at least 10 working days prior to the proposed shutdown. Call FMO at (208) 885-6246 for details.

B-3. Non-Planned Utility Disruptions. Should an immediate shutdown be necessary, FMO personnel will attempt to call all affected departments. Departments will be responsible for contacting all affected individuals in their respective areas. Every effort will be made to give as much notice as possible.

B-4. Utility Disruptions. Loss of utility services to any university building should be reported immediately to FMO at (208) 885-6246. FMO should also be contacted if a department/building occupant is experiencing fluctuations in any utility. If the disruption occurs during non-working hours or on a holiday, call the Power Plant at (208) 885-6271 for immediate response. When a problem has been identified, or after the problem has been corrected, FMO personnel will notify the campus community as to the nature and location(s) of the disruption. Examples of utility disruptions include the following:

C. Information. Installation of Equipment. Any department that is intending to purchase and/or install a piece of equipment and needs to determine of there are adequate utilities, should contact FMO at (208) 885-6246. FMO personnel will work with the department to identify the equipment needs and any work that may be required.
