A. Purpose. University of Idaho values the health and safety of the community. This policy is to protect the safety and wellbeing of students, faculty, staff and visitors at the University of Idaho by prohibiting use, charging, and storage of non-ADA motorized devices inside university owned or leased buildings and facilities; and to reduce the risk of injury to people and damage to university property.

B. Scope.

B-1. This policy includes but is not limited to lithium-ion battery operated motorized scooters, skateboards, hoverboards, all classes of pedal and throttle-assist bicycles, and roller blades as well as their associated battery packs.

B-2. This policy applies to all University of Idaho’s faculty, staff, students, and visitors at the Moscow campus, U of I branch campuses, and U of I extension centers.

B-3. This policy does not apply to wheelchairs or ADA-related mobility aids.

C. Definitions.

C-1. Micro-mobility devices. These devices include but are not limited to Lithium-Ion battery-equipped personal electric vehicles, electric scooters, electric bikes, and other electric micro-mobility devices, such as hoverboards, electric and motorized skateboards, and other similar devices, etc.

C-2. Use of micro-mobility device. Use of micro-mobility devices includes the operation, storage, parking, or charging of the device or its battery.

D. Policy. Due to the recognized elevated risk associated with these devices, the use of micro-mobility devices is prohibited inside university-owned or -leased buildings and facilities including university housing.
